Tip #1: Declutter/organize

This is the first step to creating a more calming  home environment. Begin by placing items within your home into groups, ie. clothing, books, shoes, etc. Decide which items to keep, fold/hang up and put away the items that you decide to keep. Donate all other items. Ensure that all items have a place within your home. One strategy would be to use baskets, storage benches, or ottomans throughout the house as a way to keep organized especially if you have children.

Tip #2: Use calming colors

Calming colors can mean different things to different people. A few colors to consider using within your home include warm whites, greens, or blues. Keep looking into different colors to discover which colors are calming to you.

Tip #3: Use soft textures

Consider decorating with softer and more relaxing textures,  from your bed, floor rugs, to the pillows on your couch to help create a calming environment.

Tip #4: Create ambient lighting

Lighting is a non-obvious way to create a calming environment. One way to do it,  is to dim the lights slightly to create ambient lighting. Consider placing the overhead lights in your home on a dimmer. Another option would be to supplement your home light with lamps. Lamps tend to be less brighter than overhead lights.

Tip #5: Set up comfortable features

This could be your choice. Anything that brings you comfort and relaxation could be included, including candles, a soft/plush chair, or more.

Tip #6: Incorporate nature

Nature is often felt to be comforting and relaxing, by incorporating natural elements into your home you are bringing the outside in.
